The LGBTQIA+ Community

The primary focus of this topic is to highlight the different personalities and individualities of LGBTQIA+ bodies.

LGBTQIA+ is an abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning, intersex, asexual, and more. These terms describe a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity (Gay Center, 2023). Self-expression is rooted in one’s interests; the society that we live in does not conform to individuality anymore. While gender dynamics and gender roles heavily influence identity in the LGBTQIA+ community daily, the photographs will utilize the wide-reaching influence of the South African media to provide positive images and messaging of the LGBTQIA+ people.

I documented them in a beauty portrait approach based on their personal style and experiences to connect with their journeys on identity, representation in media and how it will contribute to their everyday lives.
